Sanctuary Rangers Juniors (5 - 8 years)
A half-day adventure for your youngest wildlife & conservation warriors! Spark their curious minds and passion for animals by introducing them to a range of native wildlife and exotic species.
Monday, 13 Apr: Radiant Reptiles & Amazing Amphibians
• Let us show your child how intriguing slithering and hopping species are! In this program, kids get up close with scaly reptiles and slimy amphibians, discover fun facts about these creatures, learn new skills and grow their love for wildlife conservation
Tuesday, 14 Apr: Birds Are Beautiful
• Most fly, some walk and others run... In this program, kids can meet cheeky, colourful and mighty birds, discover fun facts about our feathered friends, learn about bird habitats and get hands-on by potting their own native plants
Wednesday, 15 Apr: Magic Mammals
• Kids, come face-to-face with iconic mammals such as Koalas, Kangaroos, Dingoes and Bilbies, learn fun facts and meet some lesser-known species like Ghost Bats
Thursday, 16 Apr: Thinking of Threatened Animals
• Have an aspiring young wildlife hero? In this program, kids will meet and learn about threatened species like the Koala, discover why conservation is so important for Australia’s wildlife and learn what they can do to help animals most in need
Friday, 17 Apr: The Exotics: Animals from Afar
• Got a child that's fascinated with exotic animals? In this program, kids get up close with exotic animals from around the world like Capybaras, Binturongs and Red Pandas. They'll learn fun facts about them, uncover some of the differences between exotic and native Australian animals, explore global conservation and have time to get crafty
Sanctuary Rangers (8 - 12 years)
A full-day program packed with hands-on activities and plenty of animal encounters! With no two days the same, this program lets kids step into the shoes of a wildlife keeper.
Every day is a new adventure!
• Kids may help make enrichment for animals like the Tassie Devil, practice habitat design for Parrots or watch an animal training session in live action
• They'll learn about biodiversity, how First Nations peoples respect wildlife and might be doing creative activities like boomerang painting
• One thing is sure: They'll meet plenty of animal ambassadors up close, learn new skills and grow their love for wildlife conservation
Sanctuary Keepers Teens (13 - 16 years)
Do you have a teen who dreams of zookeeping or just loves wildlife? This program gives teens hands-on experience in the zoo world. Plus, it's a great intro to Certificate II in Animal Care!
Step into the shoes of a zookeeper and see what their day is really like!
• Help design and make enrichment that keeps animals happy, healthy, and stimulated
• Learn about habitat design for animals in care that meet their physical and mental needs
• Observe animals up close and understand their behaviours through real zookeeper techniques
• Learn to keep records like the pro's to track animal health and wellbeing
• Explore animal conditioning and husbandry skills that keep wildlife thriving in care
This program is a great introduction to Certificate II in Animal Care! Please note: Animal handling isn't included, but you'll see exactly what zookeepers do every day.
Native Bee Kids Workshop
A fun, safe and hands-on introduction to Australia's sting-free native bees, perfect for curious young minds aged 5 to 12! These workshops spark curiosity, build environmental awareness and connect kids with nature.
Little Pollinators (5 - 8 years)
• Kids will learn about the life cycle of a native stingless bee and learn how First Nations peoples care for bees through sensory activities and storytelling
• They'll get to taste delicious local, native bee honey
• Take home plant seeds to grow their own native bee-friendly garden
Native Bee Explorers (9 - 12 years)
• Kids will explore a typical native bee nest (from a safe distance!), learn about cultural connections, bee life cycles and which plants attract bees
• They'll get to taste delicious local, native bee honey and get hands-on making a bee mobile and mini didgeridoo
• Plant and take home seeds to grow their own native bee-friendly garden
